Fungal infections
The NAC Protocol is intended to fight fungal infections from Candida, Aspergillus, and Cryptococcus.
Die-off symptoms
The protocol explains that die-off symptoms are a result of your immune system breaking down biofilms and fungal infections. From the 1.0.2 protocol document:
Part of the process of remov- ing fungal infections in the body is dealing with the cell death of pathogens, which release toxins and byproducts that the body must eliminate through detoxification. This process occurs in the liver and kidneys. During this cleanup process, a Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction is common.
Explicit fungal die-off symptoms listed in 1.0.2 (and unchanged as of 2.02) are:
- tiredness
- exhaustion
- muscle soreness
- increased chest or nasal discharge
- cold or flu-like symptoms
- cold sores
- headaches
- rash
- acne
- irritability
- change in stool frequency, volume, or color
- increased urination
- bloated stomach
- cramps
- increased gas
The protocol does not mention which fungi are more likely to correspond with which symptoms.
The die-off symptoms mentioned in the protocol documents are easily confirmed with third party resources about candida die-off. For example, Healthline lists candida die-off symptoms to include[1]:
- fever
- chills
- muscle aches
- weakness
- rapid heart rate
- vasodilation
- skin flushing
- skin rash
- mild decrease in blood pressure
